Arts Alive 2007

Arts Alive is an annual arts and crafts festival that showcases more than 100 artists and craftsmen from across the country. Artists exhibit, demonstrate, and sell their wares. They also compete for award money. The festival is sponsored by the Kennedy-Douglas Center for the Arts and it held at the Center and in Wilson Park located in Florence, Alabama. Proceeds from the festival fund the Arts-In-Education program. The Arts Alive Festival was held this past weekend and my family and I spent several hours on Saturday admiring the many arts and crafts. One of my favorite local artists, Helen Allman, had a booth set up displaying her many works of art. She had sketches, paintings, sculptures, and a lot more. She had several pieces on display in the Kennedy-Douglas Center. I didn’t get to talk with her long because she had several people waiting to get caricatures done. However she did sign the oil painting we bought. For more information check out http://www.shoalsart.com/HelenAllman.htm or http://myspace.com/allmanart.

I took a lot of pictures at the festival. I’m working on implementing a photo gallery to the site and I’ll update this article with the link when it’s done.
